Robert, On start-up of the Pre they give you a link to the Data Transfer Assistant which walks you through the whole process, and yes The Pre autosyncs with your GMail Contacts Manager.

Then in Gmail you import that file. Voila! You have your contacts in Gmail and I assume once a Pre is ginned up the Pre pulls in the contacts list or accesses the list in the cloud? I am also assuming as the contacts list is edited or amended, the Pre picks up the changes? Cannot wait until I get my Pre at the end of the year.
