That has been fixed. All versions of iTunes will work as long as your running the latest OS on your Pre.
I have the latest iTunes as I also have an iPhone 3GS and it and the Pre sync the same things fine with it. I tried DoubleTwist and a couple others and nothing seems to work as reliably and problem free as iTunes.
