I'm pretty sure they didn't roll out the newest versions in Europe; my guess is Palm needed to have a fixed version for initial distribution over there, and they're not ready to upgrade the European version to 1.2.x Given that, you probably would need to use an older version of iTunes (8.0, maybe?) which will sync with the original Pre's.
