I agree... I don't think Versamail can do it. And I don't think that 
Versamail handles IMAP very well. Snappermail is better.

I am set up like you right now (processing my primary email address through 
Gmail), and am using Snappermail. I am able to do as you ask... send out 
via my real email address.

Also... make sure you check your settings in Gmail... There is an option 
indicating which email address is your default.
