I realised what happened. I'll try & be more descriptive. I would take care
next time.
My phone now connects to the computer. Now it does. I've been able to install
the program now.

As far as the answer, it sounds like your pc isn't able to see your phone. As
someone else suggested, this could be to it simply not being plugged in,
however I was under the impression that the program would tell you more
specifically that it couldn't find a Pre or actually prompt you to plug it in
(although I might be remembering that from the WEBOS Repair Utility). You also
need to set it to just charge (not usb drive). If those don't work, you might
need to install novacom drivers. There's lots of instructions on the web about
