Yes, the Pre functions as a USB drive when connected by cable, but sometimes
it's easier to use a memory card.  It's good to have alternative options to
get data moved back and forth.

Why would you need it?

Seems to me the Pre can transfer all that straight out of the box (or, 
at least mine does)?
