95% of the time, I get better accuracy with Google Services turned off, but one time when I was hiking in the desert, Google Maps couldn't find my location at all, but when I switched Google Services on, it found me. Weird. On regular streets though, I get better results with Google Services turned off.

As was discussed here a few weeks ago, you can get more accurate results if you change the settings under Menu > Location Settings > Preferences. Under "Locate Me Using", try it with Google Services turned on and then try it with that set to off. I usually get better accuracy with that turned off. Others have commented that Google maps works better if you have the VZ Navigator app turned on even if you do not subscribe to VZ Navigator.
