A few weeks ago, I posted a message saying that I was a brand new Pre and Outlook 2007 user, having migrated from Palm Desktop, and that I didn't like how Outlook presented me with ALL of my contacts when I accessed the email address book. I wanted to see only the subset of people that I regularly correspond with, and not all of the thousands of contacts that I've accumulated over the past 11 years of using a Palm device.
This evening, killing time while waiting around for the webOS 1.4 update :-D, I did a little digging in the Outlook Help, and found out that you can create additional Contacts folders which can contain a subset of your complete contacts list. For example, I can create a folder called Friends, and I can then copy contacts from the main Contacts folder into the Friends folder. Additionally, you can tell Outlook which of your various contacts folders to look in or display first when you go to look up someone or address an email message. This is exactly what I was looking to do, and this will make my emailing life a lot easier by showing me only the contacts I need to see without having to sort through hundreds of extraneous records each time I address an email message. RTFM solved a problem once again! :-) George -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Don Ferguson Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2010 5:13 PM To: Treo List Yahoo Subject: RE: [Treo] Outlook contacts question I get this from clients from time to time. My answer for you is the same as the one I give them: just put 'em all in there. Outlook is the most general, most flexible place to keep them, since everything interfaces with it one way or another. You'll use searching to find what you want anyway, and ignore the rest, but at least you'll know where everything is. If you start splitting things up . . . that way lies madness!!! All other PIM functions were handled by my Treo syncing with Palm Desktop. When I got the new Pre Plus last week I converted my Palm Desktop data over to Outlook 2007. One thing I didn't like was that it put ALL of my Palm contacts into the Outlook email address book. I don't regularly email most of those people, and don't want all those names cluttering up my email address book. Is there a way to put just a small subset of contacts in the Outlook email address book? George
