Just finished the 1.4 update.
Looking around: I had high expectations of this update, so I'm bound to be disappointed in many ways. That said, there are lots of nice additions. Performance does seem to be better, smoother, except in the transition between pages in the launcher, which is still choppy. This should be a high priority fix for Palm, since it's the launcher pages that people interact with most often!! Come on Palm!! The new call log is nice, but they still don't have call durations shown. Have to see if the patch still works. Come on Palm!! New Videos icon on the first launcher page - exciting!! Opening the video application . . . no record button. Huh? Open the Help, it says to open Camera to record video. Really? Can't we record Videos from inside Videos? Sometimes the user interface decisions companies make baffle me. Palm does better than most, especially with the Pre, but I'll have to fiddle for awhile and see how long it takes to adapt. No voice recorder, really?? Would that have been difficult? Granted, the audio volume on the Video recorder is pretty low, even at max. Come on Palm!! I think the new splash card thingy that happens when you start an app is clever, but I don't think it means the apps start any faster; we just have something to look at while they start. Welcome to Disneyland! I do so appreciate the frequency with which Palm releases updates - truly remarkable - and I know that there were some big pieces in this one (Flash an Video), but I am still hopeful that some of the things the homebrew patches show people really want will be included in future releases! Off to record a video of me singing Happy Birthday to my nieces, and an apology for missing their birthday by a couple of days. I'll record it on the Pre and send it to them as an email attachment - how cool is that!?!?!?! Cheers, Don [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
