Ok, just tried syncing some podcasts with my 9.0.1 version of iTunes and it worked fine in 1.4. I understand the point though that potentially you could have a problem, but seems to me that shouldn't matter too much. If and when Palm disables this for ALL prior iTunes versions (something I don't think it has much motivation for doing, but who knows if someone actually buys them that could change things), I'd simply switch to Doubletwist or something similar...
