My Pre is connected to gmail by IMAP, and my PC's Thunderbird is
connected by POP3. I just discovered something that confirms what I
thought I knew - that when I delete an email from the Pre, it is deleted
from gmail's Inbox. That's pretty much what I expected.
But when I delete from T-bird (POP) gmail does not delete from the
inbox. In fact, Google should be deleting from the inbox when I download
to the PC/T-Bird, because that's the way I've got it set up. I've always
been frustrated by the need to go to my Google site and manually delete
hundreds of emails from the Inbox that I had long ago deleted from T-Bird.
I'm guessing that if I set T-Bird to IMAP, whenever I delete from
T-Bird, it will not appear, or will be deleted from, the Pre.
What I don't want to lose is that if there's something I've read
on the Pre that I want to archive on the PC, it will still be there when
I get to it.
In other words, if I delete from the Pre and Google deletes it
from the Inbox, that's fine - but if I only read it on the Pre, and
maybe reply to it on the Pre, and then do not delete it, it will remain
on Google so I can download and archive it.
What I would then hope is if I move it on the PC from T-bird's
inbox to some other folder, Google would see that action and delete it
from the server.
Is this clear as mud, or is there an answer?
Before I do something I'll be sorry about -
