I could have sworn there was a law passed recently that required carriers to
unlock phones at customer's request.

Greetings Everyone,

So, after having my Pre for about a month and having to travel
internationally soon, I decided to call AT&T to ask them if I could get the
unlock code. I'd had it on every other Palm device. AT&T had unlocked, at
least two of them for me so that I could use my SIM cards for other
countries.

So, after a bit of talking, the representative told me "we're not allowed to
unlock your device because there is a 10 month exclusivity on it." I told
her this wasn't acceptable since every other device I'd had was unlocked and
that I wanted to talk to a manager. He looked into it more and said all he
could do was make a special submission that would take 3-5 business days for
me to hear anything about. The frustrating thing is that I had called
earlier and the first rep said she was getting into the email system to send
it to me, when I accidentally hung up on her seeing if I could get the IEP
(not sure this is right) number for her.

Has anyone else had this kind of difficulty? Has anyone had AT&T unlock
their phone?

As I told him, if they are unable to provide me with that code which I need
for business, then they need to let me out of the contract. I can always
switch to T-Mo and get the new higher end android device that is coming out
in a couple weeks.

We'll see what comes of this.

Michael
