A little boy planted a grain of maize with great expectation. He enjoyed eating
boiled maize but had never had a big cob all to himself. He wanted to eat all
to himself. After planting the seed, he dutifully watered it and went inside
the house. He was anxious to eat his maize that he waited for 30mins which
seemed like an eternity to him and then went out to check whether the plant had
germinated. He saw no sign whatsoever, so he dug it up to see what was wrong
with it. After inspecting the seed he replanted it and went back, this process
continued for the next 2 days. His constant anxiety and interference in the
process of the seed’s growth prevented it from germinating. His anxiety turned
into frustration, he then concluded that what he had learnt at school did not
work after all so he threw the seed away. This paints a picture of a person who
prays with a lot of anxiety. Move from the point of anxiety to that of faith
,if the boy had understood the
whole process of germination, he would simply have continued watering his seed
with the firm knowledge that the seed was receiving the nourishment it needed.
He would have trusted in the ability of the seed to produce fruit of its own
accord and in its time.
