*Follow your heart or Guard your heart.* * * By Chamu Delight *Proverbs 4 vs. 23; Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (KJV)* * * I guess most of us are familiar with the phrase *“Just follow your heart”*The question I have is how can I follow my Heart, when the bible instruct us to guard my heart. Uuhh food for thought. *Jeremiah 17 vs. 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?* However I have learnt that the heart cannot be trusted at all time because, *For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders among other things (Mark 7:21).* It does matter who you are the heart can be easily influenced by the devil even if you are among strong men and women of God, if you don’t take the initiative to guard it. Judas was one of the 12 disciples/Apostles of Jesus but he did not guard his heart and the worst happened to him. *John 13:2 says “And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him.* So in this scripture the bible is clear that the devil having put into the heart of Judas a deposit of evil to influence him to betray Jesus, so who are you not to be tempted by the devil if you don’t guard your heart. Pastor Jeff said be watchful of what you see because what you have seen can not be unseen. Because the eye is the window that gives light to heart so let’s be watchful of what we see. *5 Reasons Why I don’t trust my Heart* * *** *1. It is full of evil* *Eccl 9:3* This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead*. Eccl 8:11* Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. *2.** It is not perfect with God ** **Acts 8:21* Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. *Prov 6:18* An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, * * *3.** Prone to depart from God and to error** ** Psalms 95:10 *Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: *Eph 4:18* Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart*: Jer 17:5* Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. *4. Deceitful and deceived* *Jer 17:9 *The Heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? *James 1:26* If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. *5.** He that trusts in, is a fool* *Proverbs 28:26* He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. So I will rather be sensitive to the Spirit than following my heart because it’s not always correct and prone to errors. So don’t base your decision on the heart but rather the spirit. *2 thes 2:15 (N.I.V)** So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter .
