I will provide some context to the solution I wrote. I wrote it about 5-6
years ago and it was on TinyCore Linux and I was probably doing all processes
as root. So it may also just be that I never bothered with the
security/permission side of the equation and therefore did not run into the
same problems you are encountering. I do not actually use this solution
anymore, but I do have a couple OrangePi Zero that are still using USB serial
ports, maybe it's a good time to try the UDEV again. I haven't because I have
these sensors slated to be replaced with direct UART.
