In case anyone is following the story, I thought I'd report that I had a
very encouraging test of a vertical 1/2-wave dipole antenna this past
weekend. The useful range when driven by a cheap Jameco transmitter kit
(with very questionable tuning precision/stability) is about 20 feet,
which is really quite ideal. I'm currently working on the circuit
design around the SiLabs part I mentioned before. I'm designing the
circuit to drive the antenna directly but with a header where I can plug
in a balun / amplifier if needed.
Thanks again for the input, friends!
