I have two friends who've had *numerous* problems with recent Dell
laptops (one was an Inspiron 8000).  They are not put together very
sturdily, particularly the plastic around the LCD and the connector
between the LCD and the base.  Cheap, weak crap, IMNSHO.

I've had good luck with Thinkpads and with Linux on Thinkpads.  In fact,
I'm writing this email from an A22p.
