That sounds like the powersave bug... er, feature, is shutting down the network interface (though I'm fairly sure it shouldn't). Does it do this everytime it goes to sleep or just occasionally/randomly?

The ping said it doesn't exist. Operator tried to confirm IP address via

Ping then said it was on the network!

Just for giggles have you tried to ping the printer when it "goes to
sleep". Also, have you gone into the jetdirect settings and looked for
the powersave feature. We are using the HP 4200 and it works like a
charm, we are not using a jetdirect card but it is on our network via a
printserver appliance.

We have just purchased an HP4300dtn and are using it as a networked
printer. It works fine when it works, but every day or two it "goes
to sleep" and refuses to print anything until we reboot the system.
Anyone with a similar problem please report.
