Thanks for the notes Tim - that helps be understand how the libraries are searched better! I think I do have the "dri" being loaded, but I'm not on the machine at the moment to verify that...

Probably because the library lives in /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/
which is not in your /etc/ld.so.conf list.  Put that directory into

Do you have Load "dri" in your xorg.conf as well?
