I already posted this to the mailing list, but just for documentation:
The solution I proposed to Terry-Slipknot was to remove any entry of "universe" from the /etc/apt/sources.list file, as this repository does not exist with Trisquel. Then run apt-get update.
Not sure how "universe" got there in the first place, but for me I suspect it happened when I tried to add the Ubuntu PPA and gpg key for IceCat.
