Interesting, I've never had a problem with playing mp3s in Trisquel 3. Maybe
it's a LiveUSB thing...
AmaroK by default runs on gstreamer. Go to Synaptic Package Manager and
install "gstreamer-0.10-fluendo-mp3". Now try playing an .mp3 in AmaroK.
A fully free distro does not include the ability to encode mp3s, though, so
the best option is to build your music library with .ogg and to purchase a
music player that runs well on RockBox firmware (or at least one that
supports .ogg files).
