Sound like a perfect candidate for ConnochaetOS, a libre distro for old computers based on Arch. It's still in development (Beta2 ISO exists). Minimum requirements are: * i586 processor * 2 GB disk space * 64 MB RAM Default installation comes with custom icewm, see screenshots at http://www.connochaetos.org/wiki/screenshots.
