Magic Banana: I removed nothing, so that / those result(s) are after  
follwoing your instructions, saving the Xorg file and restarting my system as  
mentioned above.
BinaryDigit:  I'm afraid Resolution Switcher didn't help, it just gave me  
another way to choose between the default resolutions.  Cheers for the  
suggestion though, it was worth a try...
