I thought I would post an update about my apt-update via GUI problem.  I have  
tried updating using the GUI front end update manager the last two times I  
have updated and the GUI has worked both times.  I have no idea why it now  
works except that maybe some updates corrected the issue.  Anyway, I am now  
able to use both the command-line and the GUI to do updates.
