This question was raised (and answered) several times on this forum.  
According to quidam (  
http://trisquel.info/fr/forum/which-desktop-next-trisquel#comment-8957 ), the  
main developer of Trisquel, our distribution will use GNOME 3 but *without*  
GNOME-Shell. The main reason is its dependency on a recent version of OpenGL  
that not all Free graphic drivers handle well (e.g., nouveau) or at all  
(e.g., radeon).
