Hmm, I don't think it's that... Gmail functionality seems to be fine in both webbrowser and icecat on Trisquel 4.5, not a problem there. I have also tried gmail and google.com on Trisquel 5.0 which just has icecat, and I get the same problem, so it seems to be icecat.
