Okay, it seems to be the GNU Gnuzilla Privacy extension, if that's disabled it causes the problem... With it enabled I have had other problems though, before it would not let me switch from German Google to English Google.
Have just tested that, and it seems to still stop me from switching to English Google. What a pain all this is...
