I don't know if anything similar has been here before, but this is an idea I
had yesterday I thought I might share.
The Trisquel Users' YouTube Channel.
This would be a YouTube channel made by Trisquel users and for Trisquel
users. Where we could upload our Trisquel-related videos: screencasts, news,
tutorials, whatever...
The idea is to spread the word of Free Software and help other Trisquel
users.
"Wait! A YouTube channel? But that requires Flash!"
Yes, YouTube requires Flash, to watch our own videos it would be painful
sometimes, and Gnash isn't always 100%. What I suggest to solve this, is to
upload the videos twice, one in YouTube and one in another host service, so
we could download and watch them. (Or maybe there is a video hosting website
that doesn't require Flash or Silverlight and it's OK for us free software
users, but I don't think there is such a thing)
The account management would be very similar to how free software works:
- There would be a group of users in charge of the account management, one
created an account and passed the account details to others. This would be a
group of 4/5 people and could eventually grow.
- Now if someone wants to upload a video, all they have to do is send a PM to
one of the account managers, specifying the type of video and what it is
about. If the managers think it's fine then the account's information would
be passed to that user and (s)he could upload the video with no problems.
I think this would be a great way to draw attention to Free Software and
Trisquel GNU/Linux. The only video on YouTube of recent Trisquel releases is
a review of 4.5 by sneekylinux.
This is only a rough idea that would appreciate some ideas, specially in the
account management field, where I'm not sure of the best way to do it.
