I believe you are talking about trisquel-recommended,  
trisquel-desktop-common-recommended, trisquel-gnome-base-recommended, etc.  
They are not "important packages". They only define the default system. In  
other words, each of these packages depends on a list of applications in the  
default install but, by itself, does not install anything. Removing them has  
no consequence beyond the ability to discover new software that Trisquel's  
developers would have decided, "a posteriori", to include in the default. It  
is very rare but has actually happened with flashvideoreplacer  
(trisquel-gnome-base-recommended depends on it).
