I am not sure. One way that should work is to add the command 'metacity  
--replace' to the "Startup Applications" (in the "System/Preferences" menu).  
However, I believe Compiz is started beforehand what is a waste of time and  
energy.

That is strange that the Live system has a different Appearance window than  
an installed one!
