Matsetes, your Synaptic issue might be similar to this:  
http://trisquel.info/en/forum/help-55. Try the suggestions in that thread to  
see if it makes a difference.

The battery issue might be an intentional Gnome design choice. I also cannot  
click, so I must hover the mouse to see the remaining time. When I press the  
key combination on my laptop (Fn+Battery) it displays the Power Statistics  
screen where you can find the capacity and other information. You can also  
run the command: "gnome-power-statistics"
