Hi,
I can put focus on the battery indicator with tab, shift+tab, or the
arrow keys, then use 'ctrl+f1" to get Orca to speak the value. This
works on the network indicator, as well. No additional accessibility
packages needed. As we speak, I'm using Debian Wheezy, with display in
GNOME Fallback, and find that there is a battery indicator, accessible
to Orca.

How did you get Orca
to speak out the battery level in 5.5, Dave? I couldn't get it to do
that albeit the indicator being visible. Did you install any additional
accessibility packages?
