People are buying and learning technology these days on smartphones and  
tablets, which keep people in walled gardens and therefore are more non-free  
than traditional desktops. Companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft like  
keeping you locked into their marketplaces (Google Play, iTunes Store) and  
making it harder to modify or "root" their devices. We are returning to the  
days of less hardware and software freedom for the general public.
