I probably should have mentioned, my netbook is pretty light with just 1 GB  
of RAM and a processor probably in the 1-2 GHz range.

I'd gladly upload a sample, but I'm suddenly wondering if it's a quality  
issue. Is it possible that my netbook struggles to decode higher-quality  
videos? I can try decreasing the quality when ripping with Thoggen and see if  
I get better playback.
