I don't use material with no license ("Code with no license is non-free"), but I often come across vague licenses like "This software is freeware" and "Feel free to use or modify it as you wish" without any sign of restrictions. Should I use fonts like these?
Background: Armando Marroquin created a good selection of chess fonts to
create diagrams. But the README included with the files says surprisingly
little about the licensing terms: "The font is freeware, I hope it is useful
for the chess buddies." Perhaps he meant free software? People are
redistributing modified and unmodified versions of his fonts all over the
web, and there's not a word of restriction in the README.
