OK rc.local is clearly being read -- when I comment out the disable-bluetooth  
line, bluetooth is reactivated on startup.

but still, the lines controlling trackpoint sensitivity are ineffective, even  
when i include "sleep 5".

maybe there is some other file re-setting the default trackpoint values at  
startup.
