I know this is an old thread, but I am going to leave here some thoughts anyway. First, that was a bad timing man =/ I am sorry you couldn't change your phone. I too have a phone that does not support Replicant (which I had no idea of what it was back when I bought it) and so, I have decided to stick with the usual "second best" solution, CM and FDroid. I have to say that so far I am quite pleased, but I would also make a suggestion: KISS. Keep It Small and Simple. I actually removed some services and apks from the ROM image, either because I did not trust them entirely (like the stats) or just because I didn't used them at all (like calendar for example, which I don't use but heard can still send some of my data to google). Not only it saves me memory space, it also make the rom faster and "freer". So, seeing you can't change the phone, go ahead with CM, the latest version you can get for your phone (preferably from the official team). They are now working in encryption by default, to protect users from NSA Prism, and also the Incognito Mode which protects your private data. If you can get the latest CM version, you will actually have a "safer" phone. The only problem will be mostly some drivers that might be proprietary/closed source. They might be spying on you, or not. Who knows? But at least you won't have obvious spywares like CarrierIQ installed. As for applications, FDroid will actually allow you to use the phone to the maximum running only free software. You can even have GPS for free =)
