> Is this the price windows users have to pay for giving Trisquel a try?

Nope. It's a common problem with any Windows dual boot system and not specific
to Trisquel.

I haven't personally dual booted with Windows in so many years that I forget
the exact steps and they're probably different with Win7 or 8 than they were
with WinXP.

If you don't already have a favourite Windows forum, you might have better luck
searching the Ubuntu Forums or the LinuxMint Forums than here. Anything you
find there will work just fine.

Hope to see you around these parts again sometime, and may I suggest taking
somebody's old XP machine off their hands and trying Trisquel-mini next time?
That's essentially what I did when I was learning and it worked for me. You
could also try a virtual machine within your Windows box. It's nowhere near as
complicated as it seems.
