If you do have a really, really, weird latop keyboard without this function then it is possible to modify the keyboard mapping to produce the right codes for a key combination of your own choosing. When I last did that I started with the xmodmap man page and used xev to work out the keycodes I needed to remap. I recommend you start there. As I have a UK keyboard and you have a .ca email address it's almost certain I can't help you more with that myself.
All the laptop keyboards I've seen remap some of the keys as the numeric pad
on pressing a Fn+/something/ sequence. Look for small numbers around the UIOP
JKL; and M,./ keys. The /something/ key will say something like NumLk or
have a mini numeric pad logo on it in the same color as the Fn key legend.
The function is local to the keyboard controller chip that's why it isn't
documented in the Gnome help.
