I've been looking into photo-sharing services for a bit. I had considered signing up for Flickr, as I like what I see in its sharing, licensing, and community capabilities, but I really really do not want to have a Yahoo account again. MediaGoblin looks like it could be a good alternative.

As I don't have my own server (and probably never will), I created an account on one of the public servers and fiddled around a little. Ability to license photos, good. Collections, good. It's pretty simple right now as I understand, but seems to do the job.

My biggest concern however is privacy. I have lots of photos of places and things that I would love to share with the internet in a freedom-respecting way, no problem there. But sometimes, I want to use pictures of people, especially friends and family, but want to respect their privacy by not simply publicly sharing their photo for everyone to stumble on. MediaGoblin does not seem to have the ability to mark photos as private or only for certain audiences. It makes me hesitant.

If anyone else uses MediaGoblin, what are your opinions on it?
