You first need to see if Replicant supports your phone:

If not, install CyanogenMod (without the Google Apps) and F-Droid (a free  
software repository): http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install

CyanogenMod does include proprietary drivers but it is still much better than  
the Android OS you got in the first place. For more information:
