Here's a dangerous trick: call the TVs "telescreens", and refuse to do
anything in the presence of them. That might trigger a helpful response,
depending on what kind of people your parents are and whether they've read
Nineteen Eighty-Four. If they're the wrong kind of people, though, they might
just turn it into a joke and make fun of you for it, so only use it if you
are pretty confident that it will have the desired result.
