Agreed. HTTPS will secure the contents of your communications from  
intermediaries, but if you want to hide the IP addresses of the parties  
you're communicating with, a trusted VPN is the only way to go. If you don't  
want to trust a commercial VPN provider, you could hire a full hosted VPS and  
run OpenVPN yourself.
