XFCE on the other hand takes portability seriously as they describe it self as "A lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems". They even fork consolekit into consolekit2 just to keep portability, at least until systembsd is mature enough, which by the way isn't meant to be BSD-specific, so it should run fine on any Unix-like platform.
GNOME certainly has add obstacles at porting it over other systems, BSD has
slowdown on porting GNOME because of this.
