Yes, but people don't actually tend to think about that when they say "piracy" or "pirate". RMS has it completely backwards: he suggests that use of the term "piracy" gives sharing a bad name, but abuse of the terms "piracy" and "pirate" in more than one way have given piracy an undeservedly neutral name. Normally, some other term would take its place, but that hasn't happened with piracy, probably because the very low rate of piracy means very few people have occasion and inclination to discuss it. If piracy were to become as rampant as it was hundreds of years ago again, we would probably invent a whole new term for it specifically because "pirate" and "piracy" are so whitewashed.
