Is the driver free software? Looking for "canon printer" in the "Synatpic  
package manager" (in the "System settings"), the first two packages that are  
listed (especially the first one in fact) may bring a free software  
solution... if it exists: "printer-driver-cjet" and "cups-backend-bjnp".
