Yes, of course. Use a CD-R instead. It's reusable and works around most USB  
caveats. I don't remember a CD/DVD ever failing if the ISO is checked against  
hash sums. Unfortunately, these days a built-in optical drive is a rarity. An  
external drive is bulkier than a USB key.
