I personally do not fear being persecuted for my political postings and
technology stories, but I can see why social media can be bad for people who
do not wish for these things to be used against them. At least, with GNU
Social, there is no real-name policy, so people can post under pseudonyms
over Tor.
It's totally understandable to reject social media. I have been using it less
and less too. I just use email and (shock, horror) speak to real people.
I am glad to live in a free society, but many places in the world have
questionable commitment to freedom of speech. If I lived in such places, I
like to believe I would speak out through Tor and anonymous social media
postings, but I am luckily not in that position and do not know.
