There is evidence that people feel guilty when they see others make a
decision perceived as ethical and because of feeling bad, they act negatively
towards that person.
There was a study done where people were asked to describe people who made
ethical decisions and people who did not make the decisions. The people who
made ethical decisions were described more negatively than the "normal"
people.
It is unconscious though. People don't mean to think this, but it seems to be
a natural reaction perhaps because this behaviour is perceived as a threat to
some extent.
I always try to help people by explaining the reasoning behind my decision.
They usually listen for some time.
