LVM actually eases partition resizing. LVM was created to have more flexible partitioning schemes, more independent from the actual disks. System administrators (in companies, institutions, etc.) usually prefer CLIs but, yes, it would be nice to have a GUI.

As for "changing the binaries remotely", are you really referring to attacking a computer while the operating system does not run (maybe using the "Intel Active Management Technology")? Because, exploiting a vulnerability in a program that is running would actually give access to the unencrypted data (in the same way than that program can read/write the unencrypted data). If the vulnerability allows privilege escalation, then binaries in /bin or /usr/bin can be changed or added.
